This Journal is intended for roleplay it is not intended to infringe in any way. Dorothy Williams belongs to Kerry Greenwood and Every Cloud and Ashleigh Cummings belongs to herself.

Background:
Dot was raised in a devout Catholic home and hoped for little more in life than a decent job and the prospect of marrying a good man. She has several, at least one sister, and any number of nieces and nephews that she dotes on. Her family is strictly working class, she grew up in West Melbourne, though not exactly destitute and she went into service as soon as she was of age at sixteen and sends at least a portion of her wages home each week. She’d never even had her own room until she came to live with Miss Fisher and that kindness amongst many others allowed Dot to blossom.

After being dismissed without a reference, by her employer after being under suspicion of committing murder (she didn’t murder the man, though he was all hands and tried to take liberties) Dot becomes Miss Fisher’s personal maid. Dot is a dedicated and a smart servant who thrives in Miss Fisher's liberal household and as time passes she becomes more than just a maid and is soon a sounding board, loyal companion and frequent girl Friday. She has pretended to be in the family way, went undercover in a factory, and been kidnapped (and unwillingly participated in a bank robbery under the influence of Miss Phryne. But along with those things she has also expanded her world view, and started learning new skills like taking short hand and typing.

Dot will do almost anything in order to assist Miss Fisher, no matter how terrifying, because she is as loyal as she is devout. Miss Fisher comes first, and is a larger than life influence on Dot, which is often a source of friction between the younger woman and her priest and, later between Dot and Constable Hugh Collins when they begin a serious courtship. A source of friction that led Dot to give Hugh back his ring and call off their engagement just prior to arriving at the Madonna Inn.

Personality:
Dot is a conservative and very devout Catholic. She is a sharp judge of character and doesn't fluster easily but she can be indecisive when her own desires (or Miss Phryne’s) conflict with how she thinks things are supposed to be (generally according to her priest). She is extremely loyal and has an eye for detail, often noticing a small clue that others overlook or that she only sees because of her unique (at least unique in Miss Phryne’s world) upbringing. The calm way in which she ‘manages’ those around her from Miss Phryne to Bert and Cec or even Hugh belies her personal anxieties – usually to do with having to bend the truth or turn a blind eye – all in the line of duty.

Appearance:
Dot is a lovely young woman, if a little plain, with long brown hair that she coils into a series of coils at her nape.. She has a fresh complexion, unadorned by cosmetics, and very kind eyes, but no one would have called her beautiful until they saw her smile. She almost always dresses in earth colours and has the demeanor of a servant, and ability to melt into the background and go unnoticed.
